Innovation and the Renewable Energy Industry
The renewable energy industry is investing heavily in the research and development of new technologies to generate more electricity and fuel from renewable sources such as the wind, solar, water and biomass at lower costs. Although there have been vast improvements over the past decade, some of these technologies still require scientific breakthroughs or use of innovative materials to bring down costs and increase applications.
Each major renewable energy technology has an area of innovation to address to grow sustainable energy opportunities and market development:

All technologies will need to continue to decrease costs in order to achieve parity with the electrical grid or gasoline. Other technologies that support renewable energy technologies are also necessary for wide scale deployment such as better electrical grid integration technologies and energy storage technologies.
